Best Holiday Beer in Southern California

Best Holiday Beer in Southern California

Here in Southern California, we may not get the chilly winter other parts of the country get, but who doesn’t love to snuggle up with a great seasonal beer this time of year? Whether you like the sweet stuff or something a little more hoppy, we have a few suggestions you might enjoy.

For those with a sweet tooth, the Timeless Pints Milk Chocolate Covered Cherries Stout is the perfect beer for you. It’s just like dessert in a glass! Our Milk Chocolate Covered Cherries Stout is brewed with rich chocolate and roasted malts, cocoa nibs and natural cherry flavor. (Please note, this beer contains lactose.) This holiday seasonal is always a high scorer for us on the beer rating tool, UnTappd. As one UnTappd user put it, “Now this is a taste of the Holidays!! Beautiful pairing of chocolate covered cherries with the silky smoothness of Stout!” (Ron S.) Other UnTappd users agreed. Regina S. said, “Name is accurate! A tasty dessert.” Davin S. echoed that thought with a 4-cap rating and the comment, “Wonderful dessert beer.” A man of few words, Brian S. simply said, “WOW,” but his 4.5 rating spoke even louder.

We’re very proud of our Milk Chocolate Covered Cherries Stout, but it’s not our only sweet beer on the roster this time of year. We’ve also got a Peanut Butter Cup Porter that’s out of this world. Just like any good Porter, ours is a malty, well-hopped dark brew but it also has a rich, creamy peanut butter taste that’s paired perfectly with smooth, rich chocolate. Head Brewer and Owner Chris Sparacio said of the beer, “It’s such a classic pairing I had to try it. Luckily, our customers seem to love it. It makes me really happy to see people enjoying the beer I brew with them in mind.” This beer has limited time remaining on the TP Tap List, however, so you’ll want to hurry in and try it before it’s gone!

Also on the roster during the holidays is our Tart Berliner Weisse. This sour style beer is sure to please a different crowd. Originally, we brewed the Tart Berliner Weisse as a Father’s Day special, but it was so popular that we’ve kept it through the end of the holiday season. John Y. summed up the seasonal brew pretty well when he commented on UnTappd, saying, “Digging the Berliners… Clean one here. Decent tartness with underlying lemon flavors, dry finish.”

If you’re looking for a heavier beer, our Positraction Double IPA will fit the bill. At 9.2% ABV, it’s the biggest beer we’ve brewed to date. This beer has ample amounts of Pale, Munich, and Crystal malts. 98 IBU’s and its hop aroma comes from several additions of Chinook, Simcoe, Ahtanum, and Centennial hops. If you’re serving rich, smoked meats at your holiday gathering like brisket or lamb, the Positraction Double IPA will be a welcome addition to your holiday table. But whatever you’re serving, if you’re an IPA or DIPA fan, you’ve got to give this beer a try! But you’ll need to hurry, this beer is also almost out for the season!

(Chris is working on an exciting new beer to replace the Positraction Double IPA, once it moves off the TP Tap List. You’ll hear all about it in the January issue of our blog, but here’s a little spoiler. The new beer, which we’re calling the “Big California Brown” is brewed primarily with California grown malted barley. It has an ABV of 8.4% and 45 IBU’s. Make sure to visit Timeless Pints toward the end of December to be the first to give this new beer a try! And check our blog next month to read more about the Big California Brown.)

We’ve also just tapped our seasonal Scotch Strong Ale. If you’re looking for something a little richer, this is the beer for you. The Timeless Pints Scotch Strong Ale is a sweet, rich, full bodied ale with a pronounced malty caramel flavor. With a deep copper color and 7.9% ABV, it’s a great not-too-light but not-too-heavy beer to have with your holiday meal. The Scotch Strong Ale is another one of our crowd-pleasing beers on UnTappd, and we love to hear all the feedback. Oscar O. said, “Good flavor. Malty, slight sweetness and the right amount of boozy kick,” and Sean Y told us he doesn’t have a lot of experience with this beer style but added, “this one’s good. A well-rounded malty ale.” Anna Y. agreed, calling the Timeless Pints Scotch Strong a “nice solid scotch strong ale.”
